The New Neighbourhood

A new day has arrived in the horizon! As I take a stroll on the village roads - I am taken aback by an enigmatic surprise. Well, it turns out that I now have - new neighbours. As I recall the days strolling the village roads alone in the village - reminiscing the stillness, peacefulness and cacophany of birds that could be heard in the backyard, I feel a great sense of nostalgia. I had to trade-off some of the beautiful bounties of nature that were exclusive to this vaddo to pave the way for the new-comers. I feel partly happy whilst sad as I miss some of the unique parrots with long tail beaks that I would spot at day time on a huge tree. This tree, was not just any tree - it was a cotton tree. It stood in between my house and other houses in the vicinity and provided shelter to other creatures. During the summer months, pink coloured flowers would spring out from its branches and colour the village pathway with its beautiful petals. It was a trove of the neighbourhoods ...

Reconnecting…

It is one fine Friday evening. As the sun sets, a group of crows can be seen flying in circles preparing to head to sleep after a very long day. A lot of other birds, now absent to end the day with cheerful voices and a chorus of noises and sounds. The sound of bikes and vehicles fill the air as people head out happily from their houses for parties, weddings, the Sunburn festival as it is the month of December. As the sun has now gone beneath the horizon, a group of night insects and mosquitos join in to fill the village atmosphere as hill tops echo the pumping music around villages nearby. Dogs remain on their guard as gatekeepers of the night as occasional strangers make their way from around the vicinity. The cool village breeze blows around silently, adding in a new vibe and rhythm to the atmosphere. It is indeed a feeling of great joy to reconnect to the village of Parra – the place where both my blogs originated. A cacophony of voices, memories, lessons come to mind as I reco...

A Conflict of Mindsets....

Another new evening has arrived, the sun is shining, the wind is blowing, the trees are swaying from side to side and amidst all of this, sits a young boy who like most millennials is busy on his phone and caught up with the usual monotony of life right from dusk till dawn. The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming and a smell of burning smoke from a nearby area fills the air. As the boy, sits there busy gazing at his phone as well as his laptop, a sudden knock on the door, followed by the ringing of the bell can be heard. Annoyed and frustrated as he is, he goes to open the door only to realize that it is one of the neighbors who often comes on regular visits to his place. The very thought of the neighbor coming over and visiting him fills his mind with agony that he flees to his room informing his parents that the neighbor has come to which they do go to open the door and welcome the guest. As harsh or as hard it may sound, such is the reality that most of us millennials fac...

The Arrival Of The Monsoon King

It has suddenly turned dark. The skies have turned dull and the trees with their lofty branches and extended family sway as the wind keeps passing on and off, a signal of a forthcoming storm soon to overtake the surrounding area. The birds stop chirping, the rooster stops crowing in attempts to safeguard and protect itself as the rain rambles it’s way through the hills, all the way to the trees and forests of the low-lying areas. A sudden strike of thunder, followed by the lashing rain and behold…..the monsoon king as he prepares to lay siege over the village, part by part, lane by lane. With great joy and exuberance, he marches around the whole sky, celebrating the victories that he has achieved over the past weeks and months, enough for him to survive the remaining months he has got before he can be finally dethroned by the Winter King.   The farmers in their fields rejoice with glee on his arrival, a plentiful harvest to satisfy themselves and their families thereupon, the ...
