On the 7th February 2019, our BBA
(Travel & Tourism) Department organized a field trip for the students of
the First Year’s to three different museums in Goa for the purpose of educating
the students of the different Tourism Products of India but in particular the
‘state of Goa’.
First we were taken to the Goa
Chitra Museum at Benaulim. At the Goa Chitra Museum, we were first
shown the different bullock carts from the different states of India with their
significance being explained. Then we were taken to an area in the museum where different items
that Goan churches used to have in olden times like the small alter, an object that was used in the
past to make hosts to serve as communion and various other items of interest in
the churches were put on display. Next we were shown the different tools that were used to make toddy, the
traditional Goan feni and sugarcane. Overall it was a really nice museum but what
caught most people’s attention (including me) was the exterior part of the museum as the paint used for the
museum gave it Portuguese like appearance and also the antique chairs and table
to be found in the museum compound.
Next was the Naval Aviation museum at
Dabolim which was a one and half hour drive from the Goa Chitra museum. Over
here there were different planes and jets on display which used to be used in the
past by the Indian Airforce. They even had different missiles on display, the
different equipments used by the airforce at the time of evacuation besides
displaying the history of the Indian Airforce. The showstopper was an old
aircraft on display very much typical of the 90's with a staircase that was used in the past for passengers boarding the aircraft to what is now the airbridge found predominantly in most airports around the world, it's engines which were propellers and at the tip of it's nose was another propeller.
Our trip ended with the Musuem of Goa at Pilerne which I would say was the best museum I've ever visited so far but unfortunately we couldn't spend much time in that museum as by the time we would return back, the college would be closed by then. So we quickly hurried and took a look at the objects that the museum had to offer. It was mostly based on the artwork by a renowned artist by the name of Subodh Kerkar who specialises in the art form of visual art with themes based on events impacting history. We were first taken to a room where we shown a visual on the artist and the artform he has employed in his artwork. It was really nice to see the artworks of such a talented artist put on display in the musuem. Besides that, there many nice things outside the museum, in the compound such as a statue of a man, a whole wave-like wall made of flowers and also a wall made of coconut shells. So these were some of the highlights at the Museum of Goa.
Overall it was a really nice field trip that I can cherish and remember for life in Goa and I do hope I can make many more such field trips to other places in Goa in the near future!!!!☺️☺️☺️
PS: Below are some of the pictures clicked at the three museums in Goa (the first seven are at the Goa Chitra museum, the next one is at the Naval Aviation Museum and the last four are at the Museum of Goa)
