Looking back at the short break in U.A.E!!!!

This is a draft which I was yet to post dating to around 4 months back and should have followed my post on Mother Mary's statue....nevertheless I thought of working on it as it is something that I'd like to recount, about 4 months back.....

One month has passed ever since I, my sister and my mother had left for U.A.E and now we're back in Goa.We just returned back on the 24th of November, so around two weeks have passed ever since we returned back. I can still imagine the excitement when the day actually dawned for us to leave for U.A.E. That day it so happened to be my birthday, so it was really very exciting to travel on that particular day. I remember on that day, after we had met with a few people in our neighborhood, we left the house in a private taxi to head off to the airport. I, my sister and my mother were all smiles as we were heading to the airport. What's more......on arrival at the check in counter at Air India, I was greeted with a bouquet of flowers and a hamper with nice eatables in it with compliments from the airline. I was really filled with awe on knowing that I received a surprise gift from the airline on the occasion that it was my birthday and I just couldn't believe my eyes as I never in my life had got this surprise from any airline in the world. Not forgetting the thousands of WhatsApp messages from my classmates, the Instagram and Facebook wishes from my near and dear people also made that day of mine a memorable one!!!

While we were around in U.A.E, we visited the places we often used to visit when we used to live over there at that time. We had come to U.A.E after a around almost six months...so we really saw a lot of change in our neighborhood, especially in one of the supermarkets which earlier in the past used to do very well in business, but now off-late very few people are coming to this supermarket and sadly this supermarket is running out of business and has started removing most of the racks from it's vegetable section. What's more, another supermarket is coming up, just next to it. Besides that many new restaurants and boutiques have just opened up nearby with one of them offering branded clothes like GAP and also selling expensive perfumes like 'Dior' or 'Givenchy'. Apart from that we visited places nearby like the Buhairah Corniche, the Flag Island, the boutiques along Al Wahda Street including the Sharjah City Centre Mall and over there on the Flag Island, a lot of food trucks have come up almost resembling the ones at City Walk in Dubai. Also not to forget, we visited the Central Souk of Sharjah after a long time and this made me feel very nostalgic of my childhood.

It was really great to see how much development has taken place in Sharjah and I believe that Sharjah in particular the 'Flag Island' can become the next place to visit after Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the U.A.E.

We also went around to a number of places in Dubai, but I still felt that the places we visited in Sharjah, though nearby were the ones I felt were worth recounting. Overall it was a really nice trip we had to U.A.E after almost six months over here in Goa and I'm now waiting to head to the U.A.E in just few days time after my term exams get over!!!!!

PS: Attached below are some of the highlights of our last trip to U.A.E

The Pulao in the Making

It was a Sunday afternoon of another weekend in Goa. Coming home from the long ardous journey, I spent a few minutes sifting through the pages of the local daily.  All of a sudden, I was taken aback by the sumptuous aroma of a Goan dish that filled the entire household as my mum set off to prepare it as part of a huge spread for the feast day. I have no words to describe my love and fascination towards this dish that I now proudly consider on such days as T.G.I.P.D - Thank God It's Pulao Days. With its strong aroma - a culmination of the spices of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves - 'pulao' is but one of the dishes that has grown to occupy a prominence in many Goan households on feast days. Driven by the aroma it brings in, everytime my mum has prepared it, I also drew a liking towards this delicacy. After a lot of convincing with my grandmother, I was finally granted my spot in the vast expansive kitchen. As it is customary in most households, men are not accustomed to be in the...

The Balloon Seller...

In the heart of the Al Yarmouk church neighbourhood, there is a man selling inflatable balloons on the side walk. With a broad smile on his face - he is a true beacon of hope, always spreading joy to all the passersby as they make their way for the weekly Sunday service. Surviving on meagre income from the sale of balloons, he often greets us as we make our way  for the service. He never fails to enquire as to our health as he greets us though we never purchase any of his balloons.  Days and months have gone by as we have kept meeting him every Sunday evening before mass. One day, as we entered the church gate - I was as usual on the lookout out for him. The spot was completely empty - a blank pavement with passersby coming to and fro from the church. At that moment, I was in a state of thoughtfulness. I wondered where this individual could be or where he may have gone. Weeks and months passed, and we could still not see him. We then decided to keep him in our prayers - hopi...

Musandam Changed Me.

How many of you have ever been on an adventure that completely changed the your view towards life? One moment, you’re having fun, and the next, you’re questioning everything. That’s exactly what happened to me two years ago on a trip to Musandam.  It was one of those great moments – calm waters, blue skies and excitement of trying something new. One of the activities was the banana boat ride. Now, if you haven’t tried it before, it’s exactly what it sounds like—a banana-shaped boat tied to a speedboat that drags you across the water at high speed… until it flips, sending everyone crashing into the sea. I was excited. I had never done something this adventurous before. The ride started, and within minutes, we were flying across the waves. The boat sailed for a span of 15 to 20 minutes in high speed, when all of sudden – Swooooooooshhhhhh! The rope tied to the banana boat was left lose. I clung to my life jacket as if it were the only thing  keeping me alive, my fingers...
