Meeting Zubair Sarookh

It has been quite a while since I last posted on my blog but I just thought of sharing with you my experience of meeting Zubair Sarookh when I had just returned back from U.A.E this month. To all of those who don't know who Zubair Sarookh is, Zubair Sarookh is one of the most famous YouTubers based in the U.A.E. He makes a lot of videos which range from comedy skits portraying the casual lifestyle of the common man in various aspects, to reaction videos where he reacts to any video which has become really viral on YouTube or TikTok and finally he also does vlogs where he visits any new restaurant or supermarket or an attraction in and around U.A.E and actually goes about promoting it in his videos. So in doing so, it can also be said that he has business dealerships in order to go about promoting specially the supermarkets, the cafe's or any new restaurants that have come up including saloons and perfumes too. So that was a small brief about him.

I had met him when I was leaving for Goa. I had just arrived at the departure section of the airport and after a few moments of embracing and hugging my dad, I had left to go to the check-in counter with my baggage. On the way to the check-in counter, it suddenly struck my mind to ask my dad whether my baggage was fragile or not (as normally when I would travel with my family, we would actually mark one of the baggage's as fragile). So I gave a call to my dad and asked him about it, but to my relief  he said that it was not required, but on the contrary, he asked me to come out of the departure terminal to actually see something special that was going on outside the airport. It was the traditional dance of the Emiratis (the locals of U.A.E) on the occasion of National Day which happened to be the day that I was travelling. So I was filled with awe and excitement that I could still spend some more time with my dad outside the airport and more than that get to witness the traditional dance of the Emiratis. So both us spent some time outside watching the performance and I myself was so happy to actually be witnessing the performance of their traditional dance- the stick dance.

Once that performance was over, it was time to actually say the real good bye and head back off to the check in counter when suddenly, I bumped into Zubair Sarookh. I was for a moment wondering whether I was actually seeing the YouTuber that I personally loved the most and also noticed that he was walking with his friend Hamad Ali out of the airport (who is often featured in his videos as well). So I quickly nudged my dad and told him about the YouTuber and he personally encouraged me and told me to go ahead and click pictures with him. So with that excitement running in my blood, I actually called out to him and asked him if I could click some pictures with him. I told him that I was one of his big fans and to be honest, he was really surprised that I had called out to him and so he agreed for me to take a few selfies with him at the entrance of the departure terminal.

I was really happy to have left U.A.E on a high note and for the next few days, I was filled with happiness thinking of my encounter with my favourite vlogger whose pictures I had even posted on social media to keep them as a remembrance similar to how two of my other friends had also done the same. So I could actually be thankful to my father for telling me to come out of the airport as hadn't I listened to him, I wouldn't have met my favourite vlogger most of all!!!!

PS: Below are two of the pictures I clicked with my favourite vlogger 'Zubair Sarookh' as well as the two videos of the Emirati traditional stick dance retrieved from my Instagram Stories.

The Pulao in the Making

It was a Sunday afternoon of another weekend in Goa. Coming home from the long ardous journey, I spent a few minutes sifting through the pages of the local daily.  All of a sudden, I was taken aback by the sumptuous aroma of a Goan dish that filled the entire household as my mum set off to prepare it as part of a huge spread for the feast day. I have no words to describe my love and fascination towards this dish that I now proudly consider on such days as T.G.I.P.D - Thank God It's Pulao Days. With its strong aroma - a culmination of the spices of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves - 'pulao' is but one of the dishes that has grown to occupy a prominence in many Goan households on feast days. Driven by the aroma it brings in, everytime my mum has prepared it, I also drew a liking towards this delicacy. After a lot of convincing with my grandmother, I was finally granted my spot in the vast expansive kitchen. As it is customary in most households, men are not accustomed to be in the...

The Balloon Seller...

In the heart of the Al Yarmouk church neighbourhood, there is a man selling inflatable balloons on the side walk. With a broad smile on his face - he is a true beacon of hope, always spreading joy to all the passersby as they make their way for the weekly Sunday service. Surviving on meagre income from the sale of balloons, he often greets us as we make our way  for the service. He never fails to enquire as to our health as he greets us though we never purchase any of his balloons.  Days and months have gone by as we have kept meeting him every Sunday evening before mass. One day, as we entered the church gate - I was as usual on the lookout out for him. The spot was completely empty - a blank pavement with passersby coming to and fro from the church. At that moment, I was in a state of thoughtfulness. I wondered where this individual could be or where he may have gone. Weeks and months passed, and we could still not see him. We then decided to keep him in our prayers - hopi...

Musandam Changed Me.

How many of you have ever been on an adventure that completely changed the your view towards life? One moment, you’re having fun, and the next, you’re questioning everything. That’s exactly what happened to me two years ago on a trip to Musandam.  It was one of those great moments – calm waters, blue skies and excitement of trying something new. One of the activities was the banana boat ride. Now, if you haven’t tried it before, it’s exactly what it sounds like—a banana-shaped boat tied to a speedboat that drags you across the water at high speed… until it flips, sending everyone crashing into the sea. I was excited. I had never done something this adventurous before. The ride started, and within minutes, we were flying across the waves. The boat sailed for a span of 15 to 20 minutes in high speed, when all of sudden – Swooooooooshhhhhh! The rope tied to the banana boat was left lose. I clung to my life jacket as if it were the only thing  keeping me alive, my fingers...
