A Lonesome Bird On Trees.......

It’s one beautiful Friday evening and behold a cluster of birds making very distinct noises in and around the village. One of them stands out there very distinctly on a far but nearby branch of one of the worn out trees. It stands still waiting for it’s partner who may have gone on a wild goose chase in search of food to survive them both for the night that is soon to come.

As it looks around, it finds so many neighboring birds in it’s vicinity. Some of which belong to it’s tribe just like itself while some that belong to other tribes, all preparing themselves for the night that is soon to unfold. They can be heard beautifully chirping to each other as a way of conveying important messages to members of their tribes.

A feel of great joy and happiness can be heard from within the depths of their hearts as they are finally able to discover all their near and dear relatives and friends having been separated for years and for generations of persecution from their fellow superiors who have commanded the Earth with their power and might only to have realized the consequences of their superiority over all the creatures of the Earth.

It is a time of great joy and celebration for all creatures of the Earth, not just the birds as they celebrate their freedom from the clutches of mankind. Their joyous voices are a true indicator of the sufferings they have undergone to be a benefactor to the whole species of mankind. They can now enjoy freedom to the fullest, a freedom that is unrestricted by the forces of mankind, but truly a one governed by the laws of nature that they were endowed with right from the beginning of creation.

Indeed, just as we see all distinct creatures and species on this Earth re-establishing lost relations, bridging the gaps between generations which were once strained and broken and in the process developing a new meaning to what life truly is, so too we human beings after we get out from the animosity of the virus too we realize how important good relations are to the survival of our race, how true love and affection can lead us to greater things that are in store to us and more importantly how our identities that we have forged for ourselves in this world do not make sense when our basic necessities for survival have been threatened.

It is a memorable lesson we can learn from this disease, however harrowing it may be currently at this point in time as it would far remain as one of the biggest disasters to have threatened the survival of mankind and future generations would remember this forever for as long as there is no emergence of another bigger disease or disaster in the future to threaten their survival!!!!

Overcoming the Mental Block

Fifteen years ago, I was asked by my school teacher to give a 1-minute speech for the English class. Those days, it felt terrifying to be called upon in-front of the class to deliver such speech. The topic was about myself – more or less like the ice-breakers we deliver here at the Toastmasters. Being in a school and the ‘studious environment’, I worked with my mother to put together a short speech about myself just to accommodate in for the 1 minute that was allotted to me. I was called upon by the English teacher to deliver the speech in front of the class. As soon as I came on stage to recite my speech, my mind started to freeze. I felt like things were just blanking out for no fault of my own. As I started to speak about myself – in that fit of nervousness, I forgot what I had to say next. I was perplexed and confused on how to handle the situation. At that moment, when I had forgotten the rest of my speech, I stood there saying….Um…Eh very loudly not knowing what to say next. And...

The Pulao in the Making

It was a Sunday afternoon of another weekend in Goa. Coming home from the long ardous journey, I spent a few minutes sifting through the pages of the local daily.  All of a sudden, I was taken aback by the sumptuous aroma of a Goan dish that filled the entire household as my mum set off to prepare it as part of a huge spread for the feast day. I have no words to describe my love and fascination towards this dish that I now proudly consider on such days as T.G.I.P.D - Thank God It's Pulao Days. With its strong aroma - a culmination of the spices of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves - 'pulao' is but one of the dishes that has grown to occupy a prominence in many Goan households on feast days. Driven by the aroma it brings in, everytime my mum has prepared it, I also drew a liking towards this delicacy. After a lot of convincing with my grandmother, I was finally granted my spot in the vast expansive kitchen. As it is customary in most households, men are not accustomed to be in the...

Uncertainty - The New Certainty?

A couple of weeks back, I was deeply reflecting over some of the key happenings and events that shook the world in the last six months. As I spent my time, in mere introspection of these events right from the last straws of the pandemic, to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis, the growing stagflation worldwide and the recent FTX scandal along with the massive layoffs at Meta and Twitter, it suddenly occurred to me that in all these scenarios, there was but one thing they all had in common - the never-ending 'uncertainty'.  Uncertainty or as I would put it 'an anxiety over what lies ahead in the future' is usually something that we encounter in our day to day lives and circumstances. Whether it is in our lives as students, as freshers, as working professionals or even as bachelors or spinsters - there are no dearth of examples to explain these small or minute instances of uncertainty that we encounter on a daily basis. This so-called 'uncertainty' forms a unique ch...
