Life Lessons From The Year 2020!!

We had finally reached the month of December of the year 2020, and as the month was about to get over, all of us were filled with great aspirations and desires for a better year- a year full of prosperity, a year that would fill us with better hopes of recovery from the virus, and as we pondered over these thoughts, I decided to do something special and ask my friends or people around of what were their life lessons or takeaways from that year.

I was really spellbound by the responses I got on the Question sticker that I had posted on Instagram account, and this truly showed the extent to which at least a portion if not the majority of our human race, didn’t approach the pandemic completely with a negative thought process. To start off with, the first response I got from one of my friends was that the year 2020 had taught him the need to be patient so that you can gain the love of others and your efforts are appreciated. Indeed, I would agree that this year 2020 has been a year of patience as we tried to get through the monotony of problems that we had to all undergo as a result of it. For me personally, there have been times when I really dreaded this lockdown, the fact that we had to all stay at home and couldn’t roam about, but I always tried my level best to calm myself down and really tell myself that we need to be patient so that we could continue with our existence.

Another person  shared the life lesson he had gained this year, that one must never give up even though life hits him or her with everything it can, on the contrary we must stand bold and strong to face it. At times, we get so engrossed in the problems that we are currently encountering without being thankful for the great things that we have been blessed with and so the next person who responded to my question emphasized on the fact that the least we could think of doing is being thankful for our existence despite the problems that we might be encountering.

Everything is here and now- a quote by Buddha, was another response I had got from a friend of mine who felt that it is just the present that we have control over, so we must focus on just the present and what is in our midst. We should relinquish our past and let go off the anxiety of what lies ahead in the future. This also happened to be a realization for me as well, as 2020 with the onslaught of the pandemic taught me that we have control only of what is in front of us. We can at the most plan for what could happen in the future, but we cannot know for certain whether it would happen the way we might have thought. Therefore it is better to focus just on just the present moment, as that is something we can definitely control or bring in our ambit. And finally, the last response I got from one of my cousins was that the year 2020 had taught us the need to slow down. In this so-called rat race to progress or development that we were running, we had lost ourselves entirely and so the year 2020 had taught us that we need to slow down, and introspect on ourselves or rather practice self-care. Interestingly, there had been a lot of talks on the subject of mental health which had become a major issue that a lot of people were concerned about.

All of these were some of the life lessons that my friends had gained from the year 2020 and this really went to show that no matter how bad or worse a circumstance, there is always a light at the far end of the tunnel. As Joshua J Marine once said- ‘Challenges are what makes life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful’. So through the thoughts expressed by my friends on the subject, I got to know their take as well as what they gained as life lesson from the year 2020!!!!

The Arrival Of The Monsoon King

It has suddenly turned dark. The skies have turned dull and the trees with their lofty branches and extended family sway as the wind keeps passing on and off, a signal of a forthcoming storm soon to overtake the surrounding area. The birds stop chirping, the rooster stops crowing in attempts to safeguard and protect itself as the rain rambles it’s way through the hills, all the way to the trees and forests of the low-lying areas. A sudden strike of thunder, followed by the lashing rain and behold…..the monsoon king as he prepares to lay siege over the village, part by part, lane by lane. With great joy and exuberance, he marches around the whole sky, celebrating the victories that he has achieved over the past weeks and months, enough for him to survive the remaining months he has got before he can be finally dethroned by the Winter King.   The farmers in their fields rejoice with glee on his arrival, a plentiful harvest to satisfy themselves and their families thereupon, the young chi

Rethinking Apprenticeships...

Source: Time Magazine (time.com) In this article, I would like to discuss a subject often overlooked when reflecting upon matters affecting today’s modern-day workplace worldwide. It is a subject that affects all of us, especially those of us looking for jobs after having completed our higher studies at reputed educational institutions. We do not realize it until we have immersed our feet into the corporate world – a world with its unique set of challenges and adversities we need to entrust upon ourselves as we make haste with the realities of our current generation and era. There is no other better word to refer to this term we would have commonly heard about while at university or college in our localities – the so-called ‘Internships’ or ‘Apprenticeships’ as it is often referred to in the workplaces of our age. Internships or Apprenticeships are short-term work contracts that provide students or fresh graduates with the opportunity to immerse themselves in real-life practical w

Reconnecting…

It is one fine Friday evening. As the sun sets, a group of crows can be seen flying in circles preparing to head to sleep after a very long day. A lot of other birds, now absent to end the day with cheerful voices and a chorus of noises and sounds. The sound of bikes and vehicles fill the air as people head out happily from their houses for parties, weddings, the Sunburn festival as it is the month of December. As the sun has now gone beneath the horizon, a group of night insects and mosquitos join in to fill the village atmosphere as hill tops echo the pumping music around villages nearby. Dogs remain on their guard as gatekeepers of the night as occasional strangers make their way from around the vicinity. The cool village breeze blows around silently, adding in a new vibe and rhythm to the atmosphere. It is indeed a feeling of great joy to reconnect to the village of Parra – the place where both my blogs originated. A cacophony of voices, memories, lessons come to mind as I reco
