Infinite Mindset- A Necessity Or The Need Of The Hour?

In this blog article, I would like to talk about a subject that has entrenched me over the last couple of weeks and months. It is something that I have only started to discover in recent times, given the level of complexity that characterizes our day to day lives and situations. It is definitely something worth re-examining and giving a thought over, knowing how every aspect of our lives are modelled around this very theory or belief that has started to emerge in as recent as the 21st century. It is none other than- 'The Infinite Mindset'.

The infinite mindset or rather 'infinite thinking' can be defined as a state of mind, characterized by constant learning and unlearning, constant reworking and tuning of past beliefs and attitudes and more importantly, the cultivation of a growth mentality when approaching any situation or circumstance that involves other people around with similar interests. It seeks to create or stimulate a world, where all people shift from aggressively competing with each other, to a world where people indulge in a health competition as a way to learn from each other and grow both in a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around.

This comes as a stark contrast to a world where people are constantly on the rat-race as they strive for what is commonly referred to as 'exponential growth'. In the whole process, they are hardening their identities and personas leading to all the possible divisions that we see in today's age and time. The 'tit-for-tat' world or the 'I'm better than you' world is what currently earmarks the society we all live in today. A constant desire is often seen to 'beat our competition' rather than actually 'learn from it'. This is exactly the reason why we are not able to bear or reap the fruits of the work or the things we do in our day-to-day lives. It is also a very much observable fact in the workplaces and specially, the education systems that exist as of this date. From the very beginning we join these educational institutions till we enter the job market, we are engrained in our psyche to 'compete' for better prospects or results instead of 'competing' as a way to learn better from the world around us and 'ourselves'. A constant emphasis has often been laid on 'getting the best result' amongst the lot, instead of naturally failing and learning from our mistakes. All of a sudden, we are being propounded with this 'fear' that doing the best is a lot 'safer' than acquiring insights and learning from what we keep doing persistently.

This is an extremely dangerous phenomenon to the world and the society all around. It adds up to creating what we often hear as 'toxic workplaces', 'toxic societies' and 'toxic neighborhoods'- all of which have a significant detrimental impact on the people all around. It is here that the concept of developing an 'infinite mindset' comes into practice. By incorporating this into our work-cultures, our education systems and even the society at large, we are able to effectively transition from a 'toxic competitive atmosphere' to a more collaborative atmosphere. In this way, we make way for increased learning, a deeper understanding of each other and more importantly, great personal and professional development. This not only benefits the focus group or area under consideration, it can even increase the retention rates at workplace and also cultivate the love for learning amongst the students in their schools or colleges.

To better elaborate on this, in the current workplace scenario, we might have all heard or come across the phenomenon often referred to as the 'Great Resignation'. This is something that has just recently emerged in the last few weeks and months of this year.  All of this is but a result of one thing- 'toxic workplaces'. With more and more people beginning to realize the negative consequences of toxic work-cultures on their mental health and well-being, a lot of them are making a significant shift to jobs that harness their productivity while at the same time, respect their mental health boundaries and spaces. This in turn goes about to highlight how much of an impact the mindset we have cultivated right from a younger age, is having on our lives in the corporate space. It also goes about showcasing a dramatic shift in preferences amongst  job-seekers, most of whom now believe that perks and benefits in a job alone do not supplement for boosting a positive morale in the workplace.

Taking all of these arguments into consideration, we could definitely arrive at a consensus to the fact that there appears to be a greater 'movement' orchestrated towards cultivating the 'infinite mindset' in our societies and the world around. In this regard, it is also critical to examine and reflect upon how our society is fundamentally changing and evolving as a consequence of these ever-changing needs and demands that come with every new generation and also at every new age and time.

The Pulao in the Making

It was a Sunday afternoon of another weekend in Goa. Coming home from the long ardous journey, I spent a few minutes sifting through the pages of the local daily.  All of a sudden, I was taken aback by the sumptuous aroma of a Goan dish that filled the entire household as my mum set off to prepare it as part of a huge spread for the feast day. I have no words to describe my love and fascination towards this dish that I now proudly consider on such days as T.G.I.P.D - Thank God It's Pulao Days. With its strong aroma - a culmination of the spices of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves - 'pulao' is but one of the dishes that has grown to occupy a prominence in many Goan households on feast days. Driven by the aroma it brings in, everytime my mum has prepared it, I also drew a liking towards this delicacy. After a lot of convincing with my grandmother, I was finally granted my spot in the vast expansive kitchen. As it is customary in most households, men are not accustomed to be in the...

The Balloon Seller...

In the heart of the Al Yarmouk church neighbourhood, there is a man selling inflatable balloons on the side walk. With a broad smile on his face - he is a true beacon of hope, always spreading joy to all the passersby as they make their way for the weekly Sunday service. Surviving on meagre income from the sale of balloons, he often greets us as we make our way  for the service. He never fails to enquire as to our health as he greets us though we never purchase any of his balloons.  Days and months have gone by as we have kept meeting him every Sunday evening before mass. One day, as we entered the church gate - I was as usual on the lookout out for him. The spot was completely empty - a blank pavement with passersby coming to and fro from the church. At that moment, I was in a state of thoughtfulness. I wondered where this individual could be or where he may have gone. Weeks and months passed, and we could still not see him. We then decided to keep him in our prayers - hopi...

Musandam Changed Me.

How many of you have ever been on an adventure that completely changed the your view towards life? One moment, you’re having fun, and the next, you’re questioning everything. That’s exactly what happened to me two years ago on a trip to Musandam.  It was one of those great moments – calm waters, blue skies and excitement of trying something new. One of the activities was the banana boat ride. Now, if you haven’t tried it before, it’s exactly what it sounds like—a banana-shaped boat tied to a speedboat that drags you across the water at high speed… until it flips, sending everyone crashing into the sea. I was excited. I had never done something this adventurous before. The ride started, and within minutes, we were flying across the waves. The boat sailed for a span of 15 to 20 minutes in high speed, when all of sudden – Swooooooooshhhhhh! The rope tied to the banana boat was left lose. I clung to my life jacket as if it were the only thing  keeping me alive, my fingers...
